Lesson 14 | Pushing On and Unwinding: Back to the Line, Back to the Point

Rhythm Trading, Lesson 14. In an uptrend, pushing on without touching the line is the push; at a turn, the lines break one by one until price returns to the valid point, which is unwinding. The most common path after a seedling is the normal push: reach 1.382, pull back short of the line, push again.

Lin's Take

I wrote this guide based on how I actually trade gold. No theory — just what works after 10 years.

Key takeaways

  • When price pushes on without touching the line, it's pushing; when the lines break one by one until price returns to the valid point, it's unwinding.

In one sentence

When price pushes on without touching the line, it's pushing; when the lines break one by one until price returns to the valid point, it's unwinding.

The normal push

After a seedling forms, the most common path is:

  1. Up-pullback-up reaches 1.382.
  2. A pullback stops short of the line.
  3. Up-pullback-up reaches 1.382 again.
  4. Another pullback stops short of the line.

One link after another: that's the normal push. A downward push works the same way: down-bounce-down reaches 1.382, the bounce stops short of the line, down-bounce-down again.

Unwinding

At a turn the process runs backwards. First the nearest line breaks (back to the line), then the next, and finally price reaches the matching valid point (back to the point). Price moves between points and lines.

ProcessWhat happensMeaning
PushPullbacks (bounces) stop short of the line; price pushes onThe trend continues
Back to the lineA line breaksThe trend weakens; a range or turn is possible
Back to the pointPrice returns to the valid pointThis rhythm is over

An analogy

Knitting. Stitch after stitch upward is the push. When you unravel it, the last stitch comes out first, then row after row, until you reach the cast-on: back to the point.

Remember it, no rush

A seedling can develop in two other ways, trend rebuild and turn pending; Module 3 covers them. For now, digest the normal push.

The most common mistakes

  1. Calling a full reversal after one line breaks. Unwinding happens line by line, and it can stop on the way.
  2. Guessing tops and bottoms. Opinion is worth less than objective signals; a signal is something that has already happened.

Explain it in your own words

  1. What are the four steps of a normal push?
  2. What do "back to the line" and "back to the point" mean?
  3. Why are objective signals better than opinions?

Practice

Module 2 is done. On the daily charts of three instruments, draw the complete ABCD, 1.382, valid points and rhythm lines, and mark every push and every unwinding. This is the most important homework in the course; practise it for two full weeks before moving on.

This course teaches a method using past price action as examples. It does not forecast prices, recommend any broker or give investment advice.

Lesson quiz

Get 2 right to unlock the next lesson.

  1. 1. What does a normal push look like?

  2. 2. At a turn the lines break one by one until price returns to the valid point. What is that?

  3. 3. Why are objective signals better than opinions?

I don't predict. I prepare. Every trade I share here is placed with real money, in real time. No indicators, no noise — just price action and experience.

— Happy trading, Lin
