Gold price FAQ
What moves the gold price?
Mostly three things: the US dollar (gold is priced in dollars, so a stronger dollar usually weighs on it), real interest rates (when inflation-adjusted Treasury yields fall, holding gold costs less), and demand for safety during geopolitical or financial stress. Central-bank buying and ETF flows shape the longer trend. The calendar on this page lists today's data that can move it.
Why is this price different from my broker's?
This page shows the spot price (XAU/USD) per troy ounce. Brokers quote their own bid and ask with a spread, gold futures (COMEX) trade at a premium for time to delivery, and jewellery prices add making charges, taxes and currency conversion. A gap of a few dollars is normal; always use your own platform's price for orders.
When does gold trade?
Spot gold trades almost around the clock from Monday morning to early Saturday (GMT+8), with a short daily break of about an hour around 05:00–07:00 GMT+8 depending on US daylight saving. The most active hours are the London and New York sessions, roughly 15:00–01:00 GMT+8.
How do I convert the ounce price to grams?
One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so the price per gram is the ounce price divided by 31.1035, and a kilogram is that times 1,000. The converter on this page updates with the live price. These are spot values in US dollars, before premiums, fees or taxes.
How often is this page updated?
Gold refreshes about once a minute while the market is open and the other markets about every 12 minutes, from Jin10 Data. If the live feed is down, the page shows the latest snapshot from our gold daily brief with its time. Treat it as a reference, not an execution price.
Where can I see the live gold price (XAUUSD) today?
The gold price page on xaulx.com shows the live XAUUSD quote, today's high and low, and a 24-hour chart. It updates continuously while the market is open; at weekends it shows Friday's close.
What is the spot gold price per ounce?
The spot price is the price of one troy ounce (31.1035 g) of pure gold for immediate settlement, quoted in US dollars. XAUUSD on trading platforms follows it closely; physical dealers add a premium on top.
How do I convert the spot gold price to rupees per gram?
Divide the dollar price per ounce by 31.1035 and multiply by the USD/INR rate. At $4,100 and ₹88 that is about ₹11,600 per gram, before import duty and GST. The gold price page shows a rupee line automatically.
Prices are for reference only and may be delayed; they are not an offer to buy or sell. Trading gold and forex on margin carries a high risk of loss. Nothing on this page is investment advice.
