Pantheon Macroeconomics said September CPI data left the Fed with little room for pause. Overall CPI rose 0.6%, in line with expectations, and core CPI rose 0.3%, 0.1 percentage point higher than consensus expectations. The agency expects one more interest rate hike before the end of the year.
The higher-than-expected core CPI narrowed the Fed's room to pause interest rate hikes, and the market's expectations that interest rates will remain high or be further tightened may increase, which logically puts pressure on the non-interest-bearing asset gold.
