欧洲央行执委 Piero Cipollone 接受《晚邮报》采访谈数字欧元进展
Piero Cipollone: Interview with Corriere della Sera
Piero Cipollone, executive member of the European Central Bank, said in an interview with Corriere della Sera that the digital euro will supplement cash rather than replace it. The pilot project has been launched in the summer, and the first test will begin next year, and the first payment will be made in less than 12 months. He revealed that the EU legislative text is expected to be ready before the end of the year. The European Central Bank has selected 36 institutions from nearly 60 applications to participate in the pilot next year. He also said that the digital euro can provide merchants with public payment alternatives, and the cost of digital payment for small merchants may be halved.
The European Central Bank disclosed the details of the digital euro pilot and clarified its positioning as a supplement to cash, which will help alleviate market concerns about sovereign digital currencies replacing cash. For the euro, attention is paid to the potential support for European economic efficiency from the autonomy of payment infrastructure and merchant cost optimization, but the short-term direct impact on the gold and foreign exchange markets is expected to be limited.
