Gold Trading Plan Template: Build Your System
Build a gold trading plan that works. Includes position sizing rules, entry criteria, daily routine. Fill in the blanks and start trading with discipline.
Most guides on this topic are written by people who have never traded real money. This one is different.
Why You Need a Written Plan
Every lesson in this guide comes from real money trades — wins and losses. The losses taught me more. I paid tuition so you do not have to. Let my mistakes be your shortcut.
Set Your Max Risk Per Trade
The 2% rule is too aggressive for gold. Gold is more volatile than forex pairs. The risk percentage you choose determines whether you survive the drawdown. I started with 2% and drew down 30% in two months. 1% is my ceiling. Sometimes 0.5% when volatility is high. This is not theory. This is a scar.
Set Daily and Weekly Loss Limits
Set your stop loss based on market structure, not a fixed pip amount. Structure-based stops mean fewer false exits. I used to use 20 pips on everything. Now I look at where the trade setup invalidates and put my stop there. Big difference — the difference between losing and learning.
Define Your Entry Criteria
A strategy is not a strategy until you have traded it 50 times. Do not judge a method by five trades. My strategy looked terrible after ten trades. After fifty, it was consistently profitable.
Define Your Exit Criteria
The chart does not care about your opinion. It will do what it wants. My job is not to predict — it is to react. Speed of reaction matters more than accuracy of prediction.
I have been trading XAUUSD for over a decade. Everything in this guide comes from real trades at my desk in Singapore — not from textbooks. Here is what I have learned.
